City to receive $98 million to overhaul water treatment plant


At a special meeting Tuesday, the Las Vegas City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Hermit’s Peak /Calf Canyon Claims Office for $98 million to overhaul the City’s water treatment facilities and systems. “Today marks a significant milestone for the City of Las Vegas and its future in water sustainability. This achievement is a testament to the collective effort of our Governing Body, City Manager Tim Montgomery, city directors, staff, and consultants,” said David Romero, Mayor of the City of Las Vegas. “With everyone working toward a single goal of a better Las Vegas, we are eager to start implementing the plans and making progress.”

PSA 7/7/24 Macro Companies, Inc. Transports 2.2 Million Gallons of Potable Water to the City of Las Vegas During Ongoing Water Crisis.


Las Vegas, NM – The City’s contracted disaster recovery consultants, The Sulzer Group, have brought their expertise to the City of Las Vegas and hit the ground running over the past couple of weeks. The City was placed in an impossible situation when all water sources were severely compromised after a devastating cascading flood event of the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire on June 21. The community was left in crisis with only one and half days left of water for consumption, forcing all non-essential businesses to close immediately. The situation was grim, all options on the table were not ideal and time was needed for the transport of a pre-water treatment plant. The current water treatment plant was still able to treat a limited amount of water but it was not able to treat near enough to meet the usage needs of the community due to high turbidity levels within available water sources. The City needed an immediate solution to meet those needs and Chief Executive Officer Deborah Sulzer was determined to make it happen.

PSA 7/2/24 The City of Las Vegas to Still Host 4th of July Fireworks Display


Las Vegas, NM – The City of Las Vegas has decided to continue hosting the 4th of July Fireworks Display after careful consideration. City officials cancelled all 4th of July Fiesta activities on June 25, including the parade, as the water crisis continued to worsen which led to the mandatory closures of non-essential businesses.
